Assignment 2A Bug List
Bug List
1.
Traffic on Archer road during rush hour after
school.
WHY it exists: Most professionals in the area get out of
work around the same time. Archer does not have enough lanes to fit the amount
of cars coming to and from campus.
2.
The automated questions American Airlines makes
me go through before actually being able to talk to an agent on the phone.
WHY it exists: American Airlines is probably trying to avoid
having agents be bombarded with little questions that can be answered more
easily online or over the automated machine. They also lack the right amount of
people to answer all the phone calls.
3.
The noisy lawnmower outside my window every Wednesday
morning
WHY it exists: The lawnmower is just a very noisy machine
and my apartment is not insulated very well to keep out the sound. The person must
mow their lawn every Wednesday because grass grows very fast in Florida because
of the consistent rain.
4.
The noise my neighbors make above my apartment.
WHY it exists: The apartment is not insulated very well and
the wood flooring tends to echo the sound of the person walking upstairs.
Because I live in a college town, buildings are not made with such quality.
5.
Deodorant stains on white t-shirts.
WHY it exists: The deodorant has chemical components that
turn the fabric a slight yellow color. This in turn does not come out well in
the washing machine.
6.
People who skip me in line at Starbucks and
think that I don’t realize.
WHY it exists: the lines at Starbucks in the morning are
rather long and some people have very low patience levels to be able to wait In
line. Also, the Starbucks on campus
always seems to be understaffed.
7.
When the outfit on a mannequin is out of stock
in the store.
WHY it exists: Employees forget to change the outfit on the mannequin
and no one keeps track of inventory.
8.
When the UF database offline system doesn’t work
in my apartment when I’m trying to do research.
WHY it exists: The UF off-campus database system does not
allow you to use the back button and students tend to forget and lose all their
work. Also, when too many people are on the database, the licensing agreement
with UF does not allow you to login.
9.
When I must do all the work in a group project.
WHY it exists: Some students don’t care enough about their
grade or they know that I will do all the work so they completely slack off.
10.
When my roommate uses the blender to make
smoothies in the morning and wakes me up.
WHY it exists: The blender is a very noisy machine that can
wake up anyone in the apartment. The roommate does not realize that is waking
me up because I am too lazy to get up and tell her to turn it off.
11.
When my roommate slams the door when leaving the
apartment early.
WHY it exists: The door to my apartment does not have a
spring or buffer to help muffle the noise when the door closes. My roommate is
also late to all her classes so she slams the door in a rush.
12.
When my boyfriend puts on his snooze button
multiple times in the morning.
WHY it exists: The snooze button allows people to stay in
bed longer than they should without worrying about resetting their alarm
completely.
13.
When one light bulb goes off in the ceiling
light fixture but the rest are still working so the room gets just a tiny bit
dimmer.
WHY it exists: The ceiling fixture has a set of four or
three lightbulbs and not all lightbulbs work for the same amount of time.
14.
When my roommate puts a non-stick pan in the
dishwasher.
WHY it exists: Some people don’t like to wash their pans by
hand because it takes too long. However, if they don’t, the pan loses its
non-stick abilities.
15.
When my car low tire pressure signal goes off
even when my tire pressure is not low.
WHY it exists: The computer in the car sometimes is not
calibrated properly to the actual tire pressure.
16.
When people spill drinks on me because they are
dancing at a bar and don’t realize that their drink is spilling.
WHY it exists: The cups are not large enough to stop the
drink from spilling. Also, the bartender tends to fill the drink all the way up
to the brim.
17.
When the silverfish bug shows up in my bathroom
in Gainesville.
WHY it exists: Silverfish bugs tend to hang out in places
where there are high levels of humidity. My shower produces a lot of steam and
therefore makes my bathroom the most humid place for a silverfish to live In my
apartment.
18.
When I lose my Apple Tv remote in my living
room.
WHY it exists: The Apple TV remote is very small and easy to
lose in such a big area. It tends to fall in between the couch and in other unusually
small places.
19.
When the clothes dryer is done drying the
clothes and it plays a long song to let me know it is done.
WHY it exists: manufacturers wanted a noise that would be
alarming enough to let the customer know the clothes are dry so they don’t sit
in the dryer and wrinkle.
20.
When my pantry door squeaks when I open it.
WHY it exists: the door hinges are rusty from humidity in
the air and they have not been changed in a few years.
Reflection:
I found this exercise to be very hard. I think it’s pretty
ironic for me considering I tend to whine about everything that bugs me but I never
actually have had to sit down and write about it. At first, I thought looking
at the world this way is a tad bit negative; however, once I understood the way
this could help entrepreneurs, it made so much sense. Whatever bugs us has
potential to be fixed and modified. Looking at bugs in my world made me
critically think of ways that I could fix them. I realized that even some bugs
are fixable on your own. You just need to get creative. Solving people’s
problems is a great idea for a company. People always want to make their lives
easier when Americans especially live such hectic lives. Solving the simplest
thing like a squeak in the door can make someone feel happier in their own
home.
Hi Ciara,
ReplyDeletereading your bug list reminds me of so many things that bother me too. Haha. For your deodorant problem, I use Dove dry spray invisible and haven't had any problems with staining! The snoozing is actually me. I have 10 alarms in the morning that I can snooze and sleep through. I drive a mini cooper and the tires are run flat, meaning even if they go flat you can still drive with them, just more carefully. Its a plus but theres always a light going off saying I have low tire pressure, and the notification stays there even if your tires are fine. It really bugs me to the point of pulling over and reseting the system.
Enjoyed reading your bug list. Good luck this semester!
Hi Ciara! These are all great points that I think a lot of college students deal with as well! Whenever driving to stores on Archer road I always take the back streets to avoid all the traffic. I’ve saved a lot of time doing that. Another tip you might consider is putting Velcro tape on your living room TV remote and one on your Apple TV remote and putting them together. I used to lose my Apple TV remote all the time.
ReplyDeleteHave a great semester!
