29A-Venture Concept No.2

Image
The health industry is booming right now, and doctors and hospitals are always looking for easier ways to have their patients in and out of the office quicker and healthier. Medical focused applications have been on the rise to try to digitize the health care system. The demographic that has identifies with the technological world the most are millennials.  The force  that has contributed to this is the advancement of technology and mobile technology all over the world. Millennial’s are now being forced to use electronic devices to schedule and pay for a lot of their health care. Millennials are ages  18 to 34.  My application targets only people using the American healthcare system. This demographic on average makes a little over  $30,000 a year in salary . They are marked by being extremely tech savvy and are interested in improving their lives through technology. When millennials look for products they look for accessibility and transparency. The specific ...

30A- Final Reflection

Image
I loved the experience of having to create an idea and execute a full marketing plan for it. I will remember the experience of creating my idea and going along with it. The most joyous experience was interviewing people and seeing how much they love my idea. I am most proud my whole idea and how I executed a lot of my exercises. This whole experience really gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams and entrepreneurial ideas. I think I have become a lot more entrepreneurial. Whenever I see an opportunity now, I write it down on a note in my phone. I want to pursue learning more about being an entrepreneur and maybe owning my own company. I recommended for future students to stay on top of every assignment and to really put in the effort for each assignment. The best thing to do is organize every assignment in your agenda and make sure to write down the times things are due. I struggled with all the due dates. In terms of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, I suggest really ge...

28A- Your Exit Strategy

1.      The exit strategy I plan to make is to protect my venture and save it for my family. I love the idea of passing down a meaningful company for my children to take and grow even more. My venture is something that will be helpful to so many people and there is so much potential for my children to make it something bigger. The medical field will always be growing and making new technology and my application can help my children get into the industry. 2.      I selected this exit strategy because I believe that family run companies have values that some companies miss-out on. Family companies value tradition and have a different support system then other companies. 3.      My exit strategy has influenced the way I look at my company in every way. I want my financials to be sound and I want the structure of the company to be very organized. I want to foster a culture that employees feel empowered to succeed and are not ...

27A- Reading Reflection No.3

The book I decided to read was the Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki. I have read this book twice now because this book is a required reading for one of my advertising classes. What I loved the most about this book was Guy’s way of making everything so easy for any reader to understand. His step by step understanding of social media makes it appealing for everyone. What I admired the most was Guy’s ability to bring in emotion to social media. His idea of being thankful, it reminded me that I should never steal someone’s work or words and I should always tag people to their original work. I also really liked how his book was made to be a fast and easy read. Guy believes in the power of social media and all he wants is to help his readers. The book did not really go into the adversities of Guy but he did mention that he has put in years to understand social media like he does now. I appreciate his grit and willingness to stick with it. His passion has m...

26A- Celebrating Failure

This past semester, I had a group project and completely forgot the due date for a very important part of the project. I felt like a complete failure because I usually have my life planned and organized to the minute. It was so frustrating to have missed such an important due date. I kept wanting to put the blame on the other group members, to then realize that I am the only person to blame. I learned from the experience that sometimes failure just happens by mistake. I did not plan to miss the deadline and I did not plan to let my group members down. I realized that when I take the blame for it, the group members respected me a lot more. My mistake was small but felt like the world to me. Because of my perfectionist personality, mistakes are something I do not take lightly. Failure is something that I have always feared. It stems a sense of anxiety in me that has been there since I was a little girl. I absolutely hate owning up to my failures and the thought of telling them to m...

25A- Whats next?

Existing Market: The next product for my venture would be incorporating more technology into the company. I think it would amazing to use virtual reality. Also providing a way for customers to make an appointment easier on the app. I would like to make the application as engaging as possible. Maybe including doctor reviews and information on insurance plans they provide. Reflection: After the three interviews, I realized that people would really like to have more features on the app. Kind of like a one stop shop for medical needs. One person mentioned that they would like a way to make appointments on the app and another person mentioned they wanted an insurance feature on the app that can help them find doctor’s that carry their insurance plans. From the interviews, it was made clear that everyone has a different view of what they need in terms of their health. My second interviewee mentioned that she would love to the app be accessible on both the computer and mobile phone...

23A- Your Ventures Unfair Advantage

1.       Advertising Experience: I have worked in several advertising agencies and understand a good marketing plan. a.       Valuable: This is valuable to any entrepreneur for promoting any product. b.       Rare: this is not rare and many people understand how advertising works however, I think my level of understanding is more than the average person. c.       Inimitable: This is inimitable however, once I make a campaign for my product, no one can just copy it out right. d.       Non-Substitutable: I could always substitute my expertise with an outside source for advertising such as using an ad agency or marketing agency. 2.       Customer unique experience, very user-friendly interface: Many people have complained to me how some hospital apps are very hard to use, and they don’t like them. My product will have a very user -...

22A- Elevator Pitch No.3

Feedback: On my last pitch I received good feedback on how well I had improved. I was told that I was more relaxed and I sounded more professional. I was most surprised to hear how relaxed I looked even though I was actually nervous. What I changed was that I wanted to give more details about my application and be more confident. I realized that the key to a good elevator pitch was confidence and good content. People will be more interested if you are animated and are passionate. I still do not think this elevator pitch is perfect but I am proud to say that I am more confident in making one.

20A- Growing Your Social Capital

Austin Andrade Austin is an aspiring app designer at the University of Miami. He has had an interest in creating application since he was in high school. He is a domain expert that would be able to help me build my medical application. I found this person because he is best friends with my cousin from back home in Miami. I contacted him through Facebook asking him if he liked my business idea. He gave me tips on how I can structure my app and told me that he would love to help me if I needed to build the app one day. If I included him in my social network, he would be able to help me with the technical skills that I do not have when building an application for a mobile phone. Efrain Bueres Efrain is the head manager of social media at a marketing firm In Miami, Florida. He works with several clients that target millennials in the Miami area. He would be a market expert because he understands how to target the millennial market. I found this person through a friend who is very ...

21A- Reading Reflection No. 2

General Theme: The book that I read was Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan. This book was an easy read for me because I am an advertising major and I learn about this a lot in class. Halligan focused his book on describing the customer driven marketing method of inbound marketing. He started by explaining how the changing technological world has changed the world of marketing forever. Old methods such as push marketing is outdated and consumers now only respond to pull and inbound marketing. Halligan argued that inbound marketing is the best way to market your product because it is customer driven rather than product driven. The book focuses on creating content that the customer will be attracted to and that the marketing team can receive active analytics on. Halligan argues that building following and traffic is the first step to having a successful business. This book enhanced my overall knowledge of entrepreneurship because It showed how important marketing is in the process o...

19A- Idea Napkin No.2

Who are you: My name is Ciara Jones. I am an advertising major with a concentration in business. I am currently also pursuing a certificate in Health and Spirituality. I am a talented advertising student that loves being creative and helping manage projects. I have interned at several businesses and agencies around Miami in hope to better my skills. This business would give me an opportunity to better my marketing and management skills. What are you offering to customers? The concept that I am offering to customers is a phone application that will help alleviate some of the stress before a doctor’s appointment and during the appointment. This app will allow patients to track their medications, fill out pre-appointment forms at home and help them track their own medical records. This application will help people transfer medical records with ease. My service will help people take control of their health and let them communicate with their doctors more effectively. Who are you offer...

18A- Create a Customer Avatar

Image
My avatars represents the millennials that I will be mainly targeting.  These consumers are health conscious and want to take better control of their health. The girl avatar represents a young graduate student that does not have time to fill out all the forms before her doctors appointment. She is always on the go and cannot waste a minute of her time. She drives a Jetta and loves to do yoga.  I am very similar to my girl avatar. I am always busy with school and can't waste time with being sick. This is not a coincidence because most millennials are on the go and experience some sort of illness during college or their early career. My boy avatar is a young professional around the age of 25. He suffers from diabetes and has to go to a lot of doctors appointments. He just moved to a new city and wishes it was easier to transfer his medical records to his new doctors. He drives an electric car and loves to exercise.

17A Elevator Pitch No.2

Reflection: For my second elevator pitch I tried to stick with the same story line in the beginning but change up the end. A lot of the comments I received on the last one were positive; however, I still am having a hard time feeling confident doing this. I am not good in front of an audience and the thought of people watching my video makes me nervous. I think this is great practice for the real world and I hope this activity strengthens my confidence in speaking in front of others. All of the feedback I received was positive and helpful. This time I tried to come off as more professional but I think I still have a lot to work on. The best advice that I received was that I should try my hardest to come off convincing but not too eager. A good balance between exciting and professional is what I was going for. Based on the feedback, I tried to be more professional, confident and use my hands a lot less. I feel like I was too dynamic in the last video. Youtube Video Link just in cas...

15-A Figuring out Buyer Behavior No.2

Interview 1 : Alejandra is a Junior medical student at the University of Florida. She told me she saw a lot of potential in my medical application and hopes to see more inventions like that in the future. I asked her how much she would pay for this app and she was hoping it would be free. Her most important aspect of the app would be how easy it is to use so people of all ages can use it with ease. For her user-friendliness is the most important part of the app. “If people cant figure out how to use it within 5 minutes, they will delete it off the phone,” she said. She doesn’t usually buy apps and is very picky about what she downloads. Interview 2 : Tommy is a senior communication major at the University of Florida. He is an avid video game player and claims to never have made a doctor’s appointment by himself. Although he is slightly different from my other interviewees in the segment, Tommy claims he is sick all the time and his mother gets annoyed of booking his doctor’s appoi...

14A- A Halfway Reflection

Image
Tenaciousness is competency -  Through this course I have realized that I need to stay very organized. Assignments are due at the same time every week but it is very easy to forget to do all the right steps for submitting. The best thing I did for myself was create a checklist on a separate paper and check things off as I go. Also, I think open-mindedness and creativity are great ways to approach this class. Once you accept your ideas and creativity, your mind feels freer to create opportunities and solve problems. Tenaciousness is also attitude – During the hurricane, I really felt a sense of loss and did not want to do my work. I went home to visit my family and saw all the devastation and felt as though my work was the last thing on my priority list. I had no electricity and had to use the hotspot on my phone to do work. What got me through it all was the fact that I enjoyed what I was writing about and I was doing something creative. The work seemed a lot less like work a...

13A- Reading Reflection No.1

The book I that read was the Wright Brothers by David McCollough. This is a biography of the two brothers who invented the airplane. This book was inspiring and really showed that through hard work anything can be achieved. The most surprising aspect of the book was the fact that the brothers worked over 10 years to make their flying machine work. They never gave up. Their perseverance was really something I admired and now think is something all entrepreneurs should have. The two brothers didn’t possess any trait that I didn’t admire. They were intelligent and creative and were strongly passionate about their project. The one time they had to face adversity was when the U.S. Army refused to recognize their work. The brothers were determined to sell their invention to their country but the media and public tried to convince them that “man wasn’t mean to fly”. Eventually, the intuitive brothers moved their flying machine to France where they were recognized as heroes. Wilbur and Orvil...

12A-Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.1

Choosing a Segment For this assignment, I choose to segment young millennials (ages 18-25) that visit the doctor often. The reason for visiting the doctor can be anything from chronic disease or the minor cold. This market of individuals deals with insurance, medications and physicians all the time. All three of the people I interviewed were students at UF around the ages between 20 and 25. Chloe is a pre-med student at UF however, suffers from diabetes and must visit the doctor yearly. Another, Austin is a senior political science major who claims to be sick at least 6 times year. The last interviewee Maria suffers from chronic back pain and visits the doctor at least 5 times a year for her back. Interviews: Chloe (21 years old) is a pre-med student at UF and suffers from type 1 diabetes. Upon coming to Gainesville, she needed to switch over her medical records to an endocrinologist in the area. She said this process was very difficult considering she was an out of state studen...

11A- Idea Napkin No.1

Assignment 11A Who You Are . My name is Ciara Jones. I am an advertising major with a concentration in business. I hope to one-day work in an agency and eventually for a brand that I really love. I am a talented advertising student with experience from several businesses in South Florida in copy writing, sales and social media. I am passionate about advertising and marketing and hope to one day make a difference for a company that shares the same values with me. This business idea would impact so many people lives for the better. I currently work for a startup that is passionate about preventative health care and I feel this app would be a great step in the right direction for preventative healthcare. What are you offering to customers? The concept that I am offering to customers is a phone app that will help alleviate some of the stress before a doctor’s appointment and during the appointment.
